Tulip Fields Bundle for 3rd Thurs Blog Hop

Welcome to the 3rd Thurs Blog Hop for February stampers!

This month’s theme is 2nd wind… so I thought it was a good time to share this project that features the Tulip Fields Bundle from the current occasions catalog.  I really love how easy it was to create a scenic card with the patterned paper providing the backdrop, while the dies created the focal point.

I used the colors from this sample of the patterned paper, found in the Flowering Fields DSP package, which are Poppy Parade and Petal Pink.  I added the Crumb Cake to bring in a third color.  The dies made it very simple to create the elements, and then I just had to put it all together.

This is a great example of how sometimes the dies and stamp sets from our bundles can really stand on their own.  I usually buy them as the bundle to save the 10% at purchase and because I usually find I want the coordinating images when I use the dies.  But really this card can stand on its own without the coordinating stamps.

Leave me a comment, let me know if you have ever decided to purchase just the stamp set or maybe just the die set for an item.  Often they can be used quite effectively all on their own.

After you leave me a comment, be sure to hop over to Kimberly’s blog and enjoy the next project.

If you need more details about my project, the supply list and project instructions are found below.  And if you don’t already have a demonstrator, I would be happy to serve your Stampin’ Up! needs.

Happy Stampin’,

Susan

Project Instructions:

  1. Cut a 8 ½” x 5 ½” piece of Poppy Parade. Score at 4 ¼”. Fold in half to form a card base. Burnish crease using a Bone Folder.

  2. Cut a piece of Flowering Fields DSP cut to 5 ¼” x 6”.  Now score it at 5 ¾”.  Then fold back the ¾” end and adhere it to the large section to expose the opposite side of the paper.  This creates a border at the bottom, while just using one piece of DSP.  Then adhere the panel to the front of the card with adhesive.

  3. Now use the coordinating dies from the bundle to die-cut the following pieces:

    • Poppy Parade at  4” x 4” - windmill blades

    • Crumb Cake at 4” x 4” - building full die

    • Crumb Cake at 4”x 4” - building detail

    • Poppy Parade at 4” x 1”  - 2 sets of the tulip flowers

    • Petal Pink at 4” x 1” - 1 set of tulip flowers

  4. Now build the focal point of the card.

    • First assemble the windmill building with liquid adhesive.

    • Then add the windmill blades with a brad at the center.  If you don’t squeeze it too tight on the back, it will actually rotate.

    • Now add dimensionals to the back and position on your card face.

    • Next add the three strips of tulip flowers to the card just below the windmill to create the scene.

  5. Add the sentiment by stamping with Poppy Parade ink direct to the DSP panel.
