Tree Lot Dies for 3rd Thurs Blog Hop
Tree Lot Dies & Whimsical Woodland
for 3rd Thurs Blog Hop
Hello my stamping friends.
It’s time for the 3rd Thursday Blog Hop and this month our theme is Christmas In July! I have a fun and frosty card to share with you that features the Tree Lot Dies from the summer Sale-a-bration catalog and the new Whimsical Trees embossing folder from the Fall Mini Catalog. It’s also nice that the Tree lot dies will coordinate with the Trees For Sale stamp stamp also in the Fall Mini Catalog.

Okay, so I actually started out by using a simple sketch shard by the Global Design Project Blog. Not that you might think my project actually ended up close to the sketch, you tell me after you see my blog post. If you are interested in seeing the original challenge you can visit their blog directly with this link and the link of the sketch below. GDP Blog.
Okay, so we have here a simple sketch. If we break it down into parts and pieces:
-
a card base
-
a large circle image
-
a sentiment banner
But of course, remember it’s a sketch which means there are no measures given to restrict us in our creative process. And just because there is a circle and a rectangular banner in the sketch, we can most certainly change the elements.
I started by choosing my colors to go with my Tree Lot Dies and Trees For Sale stamp set. Here are my Parts & Pieces, I used Granny Apple Green, Real Red, Basic White, and Basic Black.
I decided to do an embossed Vellum layer and used the new Whimsical Woodlands Embossing Folder. I wanted the card to be green, but also feel frosty! So the vellum layer achieved that idea. I also used my Basic Black and Soft Suede Blend to color the tire and the front hitch of the camper.
So here is my finished project! But what happened to my circle element? Well originally I did have a die-cut circle to “frame-in” my scene with the trees and the camper. But I decided it was too much. I wanted more of the vellum layer to show and I decided to use the curved top of the camper as the curved top of my circle. To take it a step further, I also used the trees to create a ½ circle behind the camper as well. A bit of background but also a bit of shaping!
So what do you think! Leave me a comment, did I pull off the frosty look with the vellum layer? Did the circle element get lost without the circle die-cut or does the camper and trees fulfill the idea of the sketch.
Okay, so now I send you along to the next paper crafter in our blog hop today. Go on along and visit Angie's Blog Post. The full list of blog hop participants is here as well.
