Art Gallery | Faux Silk Technique

Art Gallery | Faux Silk Technique

Hello my stamping friends.

Today I am sharing a Faux Silk Technique with all of you.  This technique employs a layer of tissue paper!  I love that it gives it a fun texture and unique final image.  Just something fun to do to mix it up a bit.

I have a full Show & Tell Demonstration for your crafting enjoyment and to take you through the full process from start to finish.  Check it out, and if you enjoyed watching please subscribe to my youtube channel so you will be notified when I share other projects in video format!

Project Instructions:

  1. Cut a 8 ½” x 5 ½” piece of Basic White cardstock. Score at 4 ¼”. Fold in half to form a card base. Burnish crease using a Bone Folder.

  2. Cut a 5 ¼” x 4” piece of Pale Papaya cardstock for a framing mount.

  3. Cut a 5” x 3 ¾” piece of Basic White cardstock that will be the mount for the stamped tissue paper.

  4. Cut a piece of Tissue Paper to be 5 ½” x 4 ½”.

  5. Stamp the floral images onto the Tissue Paper.  First with full bloom with the Pale Papaya ink, then the detailed image with the Calypso Coral ink.

  6. Add the Garden Green stamped stems to each flower.  Mask off the section of stem you want to omit or only ink the section you want to include.

  7. Now scrunch up and wrinkle the tissue paper.  Then unfold and smooth it out slightly.  Then add liquid adhesive to the front of the Basic White layering panel and press the tissue paper to it.

  8. Trim the edges or adhere the tissue paper to the back like a stretched canvas.  Then adhere to the Pale Papaya layer for the card with liquid adhesive

  9. Now dye your ribbon with the Pale Papaya ink.  For my ribbon, first I cut 2 pieces at about 6”.   Then I pressed my ribbon into my ink pad with a piece of scrap paper over the top.  You could also dye your ribbon with the Stampin’ Write markers or the Blends.

  10. Wrap and tack the ribbon across the stamped panel and tack on the back with dimensionals.  Layer the two ribbons to create an overlapping ribbon.

  11. Add the stamped and ribboned layer to the card with dimensionals.

  12. Now stamp the sentiment with the Calypso Coral ink and then die cut with the coordinating Floral Gallery Dies.  Add to the card front with dimensionals near the ribbon.

  13. Now add the Iridescent Rhinestones for a bit of bling!
